With the biggest date in the retail calendar fast-approaching, the cosmetic sector has geared up to provide makeup lovers with their annual Christmas collection.
From makeup sets, eyeshadow palettes and lip glosses to advent calendars and Christmas crackers in sparkly and festive packaging. The beauty industry is definitely getting in the Christmas spirit.
In the lead up to Christmas, cosmetic sales increase as beauty products are on many consumers shopping lists. According to Statista the total sales value for the cosmetic industry in December 2017 was estimated at £9.77 billion. NPD Group beauty Industry analyst Larissa Jensen says that “makeup has taken on a greater role in holiday sales over the last few years as many consumers find excitement in a category ripe with fun and whimsical items perfect for gifting.”
2018 will see no difference, as Christmas Retail Monitor 2018 shows that the growth in the personal care category is likely to be driven predominantly by the Christmas party season and strong demand for ranges such as self-tan products.
Make-up brands have responded to this trend by putting greater emphasis on launching limited edition Christmas collections in time for the holiday.
One example is Irish beauty retailer Cocoa Brown who have recently launched their Cocoa Brown Christmas Cracker and 12 days of Christmas Calendar filled with self-tanning kits. Online retailer Asos also launched their Face & Body Advent Calendar in time for the holiday. Charlotte Tilbury released a Charlotte’s Beauty Universe Advent Calendar containing twelve full-sized and mini award-winning beauty and skincare products. The UK’s number one nail brand, Nails Inc. also launched a Christmas Cracker containing six bestselling full-sized Nails Inc. polishes. Cheaper beauty retailers are also taking part in this trend. Popular low-end beauty retailer NYX recently launched their 24 Days of Beauty Advent Calendar and Maybelline released a countdown advent calendar Christmas giftset.
Among the releases of Advent calendars and Christmas crackers, many beauty retailers have also launched limited editions makeup collections. US beauty influencer and beauty retailer Jeffree Star, launched his holiday collection velour liquid lipstick on Beauty Bay. Beauty retailer Too faced also launched their Christmas collection in September including an eyeshadow palette shaped like a pink Christmas tree.
Lip colour and gloss are also popular holiday sellers. Well-known beauty Kylie Cosmetics released a number of Christmas holiday limited edition products including a Baby It’s Cold Outside Mini 8 Lip Set which is now sold out on their website.
