With the Royal wedding tomorrow, retailers, tourism chiefs and hoteliers are optimistic that the special day will boost retail spend. With a predicted surge in both domestic and international visitors to Britain, the Royal wedding boost is expected to generate approximately £561 million in retail sales over the weekend.
Several of our customers have seized the opportunity to join in the Royal celebrations.
Fortnum and Mason are very excited about the Royal event. Their recent blog ‘How to host a Royal wedding party’ provides customers with a step by step guide to planning the big day. From Wedding Bouquet Tea, to a Hamper fit for the newlyweds, this unique guide will not only help boost sales but commemorate the marriage of Meghan and Harry. Along with memorabilia, Fortnum and Mason have also launched an afternoon tea package where guests can watch the ceremony live for just £85 per person.
Another brand engaging with the Royal wedding is the pottery retailer Emma Bridgewater. Within minutes of the engagement being announced, the brand’s £20 commemorative mug had gone into production. This product has flown off the shelves, allowing customers to capture a snapshot of British history.
Boux Avenue a high street lingerie brand, is also using the Royal wedding to their advantage promoting their bridal lingerie range. From honeymoon swimwear to paper heart confetti, Brides to be across the country will be looking to Meghan for inspiration.
Meanwhile, fashion brands are monitoring Markle’s style and there is much speculation over the anticipated wedding dress. A natural successor of the Kate effect, the ‘Meghan effect’ is likely to boost sales with speculated British fashion brands. Stepping out in a beige skirt from Joseph and over the knee boots from Kurt Geiger last month, these products were an instant sell out. Although we cannot confirm the awaited wedding dress will sell out in record time, we can guarantee you had better move quickly if you want to get your hands on a dupe.
So, what will you be splashing out on to celebrate this special event? Commemorative china, wedding themed tea, or even bunting, we hope you are as excited to see the unfolding of such a memorable day as we are.
